CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION SPECIALIST

Supervises staff to ensure the curriculum and daily activities meet the needs of the children in accordance with the Performance, licensing standards, and service area plans.
Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) in Child Dev, Early Childhood Ed or related field + 3 yrs exp in a state-licensed preschool or Head Start program required. Supervisory experience required. Candidate familiar with state QRIS process and additional preschool assessment tools preferred. Knowledge of VA Building Blocks standards preferred.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialist -- Virginia-1000000181
We seek experienced Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialists to support Head Start and Early Head Start programs to ensure high quality Head Start services in accordance with the Head Start performance standards and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. The Early Childhood Education Specialist will offer training and support to Head Start programs and local early childhood professionals, teachers, home visitors and education managers and share information about relevant resources available in the state. The Specialist will work with the programs to correct deficiencies relating to program design and management, governance, fiscal systems, educational parental and family engagement, health and nutrition, mental health, oral health. The Early Childhood/Specialist will engage programs in dialogue and learning of best practices for children from birth to three and from three to five and encourage a culture of learning that promotes school readiness. This position is home-based and will involve travel to programs within the state of Virginia.
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Family Studies or related subject required
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in the field of Early Childhood Education
- Experience offering training and technical assistance within Early Care and Education required
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education
- Experience in early childhood education issues relating to program design and management, fiscal, parental involvement, health and nutrition, mental health, and/ or oral health required
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required
- The ideal candidate will have both a background and experience in Early Childhood Education settings working with children and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of current child development practices and research based early childhood quality methods and approaches
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Education/Disabilities Coordinator
SALARY:
$44,823.00 - $69,146.00 Annually
DESCRIPTION: Performs administrative and supervisory work in directing and managing the educational program to include disability services of the County Head Start program. Oversees the daily activities of the education center and program teachers and instructional aides, reviewing lesson plans, maintaining applicable records of operations, and preparing applicable reports. Serves as a substitute teacher when needed by providing preschool educational and recreational activities for income eligible and children with disabilities. Also responsible for budget development and implementation, and grant preparation. Must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in directing the operations of the child development center and ensure compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in early childhood development, educational administration, or a related field, and 1 to 2 years of supervisory/administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requires acceptable criminal and child protective services background checks.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: DMV records check, background checks, and drug testing conducted prior to employment. Tuberculosis screening conducted prior to employment.
This position is considered to be essential (County designation as ALPHA*). As an ALPHA* employee, you may be expected to remain at your worksite or to report following an emergency in order to respond to the needs of the citizens of York County. You may be asked to perform functions not customarily part of your normal duties but which would not require you to have extraordinary skills nor pose a health/safety risk.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including common office machines such as copiers, projectors, etc. Work involves frequent walking to and from classrooms, some standing, bending and stooping to pick up materials or to get at the same level as a child. There is occasional pushing and pulling of equipment, tables, and chairs. Some lifting and carrying is involved when unpacking materials, or when restraining a child.

Shenandoah Valley Head Start Consortium
Education and Disabilities Coordinator
The Education and Disabilities Coordinator will be responsible for planning, directing, supervising, coordinating and administering the federal Head Start grant education and disabilities services program in accordance with federal, state and local preschool regulations. The position facilitates the instructional coordination with a seven member public school consortium of school-based preschool service in Augusta County, Bath County, Highland County, Rockingham County and the cites of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro.
The position plans, organizes and coordinates preschool instructional and disabilities services in a collaboration setting with other preschool funding sources operating within the participating localities in the consortium. The position is responsible for planning for curriculum implementation, staff training and development for participating instructional staff in the consortium. The position monitors and reports on student outcomes and progress in meeting the instructional goals and objectives established by local, state and federal regulations. The position coordinates with other service components of the program’s comprehensive preschool service plans.
The position is classified as administrative/supervision Level I. The salary and benefits are based Augusta County Public Schools salary scale.
Qualifications for position include: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education required. A minimum of three years preschool teaching experience desired. Experience in meeting federal and state preschool regulations desired. Demonstrated experience in working with early age learners required. Experience and knowledge of early childhood development and supervision in a preschool setting desired. Three years actual experience in supervision or coordination experience in human services, public school setting, preschool setting or related field preferred. Licensure from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in early childhood education and CLASS certification preferred.
