We are pleased to announce the 2022 winners of our Annual Nancy Elmore Scholarship recipients.
The Nancy Elmore Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for two people to receive some financial assistance with their continuing education expenses. Named in honor of Nancy Elmore, who has been an integral part of Virginia Head Start programs for many years, the Elmore Scholarships will provide two $1,000 scholarships to VAHSA member Head Start staff or parents to further their education.
All Head Start staff, except directors, are eligible to apply. All parents who have children enrolled during the current school year are also eligible to apply.
The Association will award two scholarships of $1,000 each, one to a parent, one to a staff person. Awardees must be enrolled in an institute of higher education; the award will be sent to the institution to be deposited in the account of the awardee.
Applicants must be nominated by their program. Staff applicants must be nominated by the program director; parent applicants by the Policy Council.
Our staff winner is Heather Wakefield-Mathes from People Inc. of Virginia. She will be pursing a degree in Early Childhood Education, Psychology/Human Services with Bluefield University.
Idries Elhassan is our parent winner, from Higher Horizons Head Start & Early Head Start Program in Falls Church, Virginia and will be attending Old Dominion University pursuing a degree in Accounting.
Congratulations to you both and we support your education endeavors!
